Plagiarism and Ethics:
Plagiarism is copying another person’s ideas and artwork. For example, using an Anime character with little change is plagiarism. Downloading images or visuals from the Internet or using an image straight out of a book or magazine to use as the central design for a class assignment is also plagiarism. It is okay to use a collection of various images as inspiration, to copy photos the artist has taken himself and to significantly alter an original image so it becomes the student’s own unique image. An image needs to be altered and changed at least 30 percent to make it your own.
Note: copying another artist’s work for practice of technique and style is okay as long as the resulting work is not claimed as one’s own and/or displayed unlawfully, turned in for class assignments, submitted in the AP portfolio, sold, or used for commercial purposes. (Some exceptions may apply if all copyright laws are followed).
