Special Day Class (SDC) Program Overview

Analy High School

Students at Analy High School who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) may take classes in AnalyÕs Special Day Class (SDC) program.  A studentÕs placement in an SDC class is a team decision, generally made in the studentÕs annual IEP meeting.  The Special Education teachers from Analy make every effort to attend the IEP meetings of incoming freshman from AnalyÕs feeder middle schools.  The result is that students in SDC classes receive tailored, small group instruction using materials that are ÒrightÓ for the each studentÕs learning needs.  Classes generally have 10 – 15 students, one classroom teacher and at least one adult paraprofessional. Older general education students are hand-selected to be peer tutors, ensuring that students are constantly supported in their academic and social growth.

Most students in the SDC program take advantage of AnalyÕs general education electives and P.E. classes.  Students in AnalyÕs Resource (RS) Program and from the Severely Handicapped (SH) program often take one or more SDC classes, particularly Math and/or Reading.   SDC students follow a regular seven period schedule and move from classroom to classroom like all other students at Analy.  All SDC students, especially Freshman and new students, get an exceptionally high level of support which allows them to be successful on such a big campus.

Students who spend most of their day in the SDC program generally are working towards a Certificate of Completion.  A Certificate of Completion allows students the opportunity to take four years (or more) of classes picked to meet their individual needs.   This program is very flexible.  Most students spend part of their day in AnalyÕs Off-Campus Work Program.  Students may repeat classes for several years in order to make continued progress with the material.  Occassionaly students choose to take challenging, general education classes on a pass/fail basis.  Students following a Certificate of Completion program take a full load of academic classes focused on skills for life such as reading, math, community skills, and job readiness.  After four years of high school attendance, students are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony, and theyÕll be in a position to go to work, move onto an 18-22 year old program such as the program offered by West Sonoma County Union High School District, or take a class or two at the Junior College.

We work with students to reach their maximum academic potential.  AnalyÕs SDC program provides tailored learning programs, individual pacing, and sound instructional curriculum such including Corrective Reading, Saxon Math, and Expressive Writing. Staff members keep a focus on interpersonal and intrapersonal growth through structured Community Skills curricula, constant teacher-student interaction, and frequent communication with parents and guardians.  Our Off-Campus program allows students to gain critical life skills, build confidence, earn a little money, and take advantage of practical work experiences with supervision.

We are very proud of the SDC program at Analy High School and extend an open invitation for parents and interested students to visit and come check out our program!
